Science and Social Studies

SCIENCE: 

Students will explore three different units this year through the FOSS curriculum:

1) Pebbles, Sand, and Silt

2) Plants and Animals
3) Solids, Liquids, and Gases

They will learn more about the scientific method and have a science notebook to record their experiments.  Hands-on experiments make the lessons very engaging!  Our 1st grade students will actively participate in scientific practices through their own investigations and analyses.

SOCIAL STUDIES

In first grade, your child will learn about history, geography, economics and civics.  Topics that we will learn about include:

• family and cultural traditions in the U.S.
• chronological events         
• map skills
• how people in different communities interact with each other and the environment
• jobs that produce goods and services
• short term financial goals
• leaders, holidays, and American symbols
